Modified Schedule, Saturday, June 16

First off, we'd like to extend yet more gratitude to all the students who were able to attend the make-up exam on Saturday. It was a very positive event, and we hope everyone had a good time. For any students that couldn't make either end-of-year event, we will be testing students at the end of their regularly-scheduled classes, and we invite their parents to see their tests and bear witness to the skills achieved over the year.

Additionally, due to instructor availability, we are announcing a modified schedule for Saturday, June 16:

 

  • The Tai Chi class is cancelled for that day.
  • The Youth class remains at 10am, but the Open class is moved to 11am.

Make-up Exam and Modified Schedule, Saturday June 9

We'd like to send our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude for all the students who came on Tuesday to our annual end-of-year event. The Headmaster was very impressed with our school and reiterated how this event is a highlight of his year.

All Tae Kwon Do classes for Saturday, June 9 are cancelled to allow room for our Make-Up End of Year Demonstration and Promotion Test. K/1 students at the White Belt or High White Belt level are invited to arrive at the Atlantic Avenue Studio at 11:30am, while older students at the Yellow Belt or higher level should arrive at noon. We look forward to seeing everyone who couldn't make our event on Tuesday.

Year-end event Tuesday 6/5! (and make-up details/modified schedule 6/9)

Tomorrow, Tuesday June 5th is our Year-End Demonstration and Promotion Test. This event is a great opportunity for our school to be inspected by our special guest, Headmaster Michael Dealy, PhD. It's also a great opportunity to demonstrate the year's progress for all students. The event will start at 5:30pm at the Trevor Day School West Gym, 1 West 88th Street. As a transit note, please remember the nearest B/C station, 86th St, is closed for renovations. Please make appropriate plans. Additionally, for non-Trevor students who wish to participate in uniform, please bring this waiver, completed and signed.

Additionally, we have a modified schedule for Saturday, June 9th. All Tae Kwon Do classes will be cancelled for the day. This is to free up time for the make-up exam, which will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, June 9th in the Atlantic Avenue Studio. All students that have been notified of their upcoming promotion, but who were not able to make it to our Year-End event is invited to test at the studio.

End of Year Demonstration and Promotion Test 6/5

We'd like to remind everyone about the upcoming End of Year Demonstration and Promotion test on Tuesday, June 5, and also provide a special transit note. The event will be at Trevor Day School's West Gym at 1 West 88th Street, in Manhattan at 5:30 pm. Please note, the 86th Street B/C station will be closed for several months starting Monday, so please leave extra time and make appropriate plans. All students are invited to the demonstration to practice with our special guest, Headmaster Dr. Michael Dealy.

Black Belt Intensive (6/1); Year-End Demonstration (6/5)

Coming up on Friday, June 1 at 7p, all Brown and Black Belts are invited to attend our June Black Belt Intensive. We will practice special techniques and discuss advanced topics such as when you become the steward of your own practice.

Then, on Tuesday, Jun 5 at 5:30pm at the Trevor Day School Gym at 1 W 88th Street in Manhattan, we will have our Year-End Demonstration and Promotion Test. Many students will be testing for new belts, but all students are invited to attend this special day. Our esteemed guest, Headmaster Dr. Michael Dealy, will be in attendance to review our club as well as preside over the promotion tests. Please note that the Atlantic Avenue Studio will be closed on this day to prepare for the event. K-1 students will have their own event later in June.

Year-end Demonstration and Promotion Test 6/5

On Tuesday, June 5, we will be having our year-end demonstration and promotion test. The event will be at 5:30pm at the Trevor Day School, 1 W 88th Street in Manhattan. Over the next week, the instructor will be informing students which belt they will be testing for. Regardless of what you're testing for, we invite all to attend so the Headmaster can review our school.

 Additionally, there's going to be a separate event for students going to high belts as well as a make-up test for anyone who cannot make the big event.

TKD Class Trip to the Mountains and Model Mugging Workshop (5/19-20)

Next weekend (May 19-20) we have two great events we wanted to tell you about.

For our Tae Kwon Do students, we have a Class Trip to the Mountains where we will be heading to the Catskills to practice the art in nature. The trip will feature practice, but also hiking, camping, and philosophical discussions. Registration is open online, and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

For those staying in Brooklyn, we are also hosting a Model Mugging event for women. This workshop offers both strategies for self-defense as well as an opportunity for folks to practice their skills in a safe way, at full force, against a padded "attacker". Registration for this event is also available online. No prior knowledge or experience required, all are welcome, so feel free to forward this opportunity to your friends.

Congrats to our new Black Belt and to the Champions

This past Saturday was our Spring Tournament and Black Belt Test. A special congratulations to our new Second Degree Black Belt, Shafi, as well as to our many Champions in both Forms and Freestyle. Thank you to all who attended, it is through your participation that these events go so well.

Coming up on May 19-20, we have our Spring Class Trip to the Mountains. You can register online here for the unique experience of training with the Headmaster in the mountains of upstate New York. In addition to practicing in some of the oldest forest in the world, we'll be camping, hiking, and talking about martial arts and philosophy. We'd love to see you there!

Modified Schedule 4/21 (Tournament)

Due to the Spring National Tournament (that you can still sign up for) we are announcing a modified schedule for Saturday, April 21:

  • The noon Open Class will be run concurrently with the 9:30am Youth Class at 9:30am
  • Tai Chi will run at 10:30am as normal
  • There will be no class at noon

As a quick reminder, the Spring National Tournament is open to all ages and belt levels through Third Degree Black Belt. The event starts at noon (doors open 11:30am) at 8101 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn. You can still register online to save over registering day-of, even if you pay day-of!

Finally, registration has opened for the Spring Class Trip to the Mountains! We'll be heading up Saturday May 19 and returning the following day. While in the mountains, we'll be training with the Headmaster in nature, hiking, and discussing martial arts and philosophy. Feel free to contact us with any questions about this event.

Tournament 4/21, Trip to the Mountains 5/19-20, Year-end Event 6/5

As we come to the end of the year, we have a bunch of exciting events coming up. Check it out:

 

  • On Saturday, April 21, there's the Tournament and Black Belt test. We have some students who are preparing for the Black Belt test, and the tournament is open to all ages and all belt levels up to and including 3rd Dan. Register online and save over registering day-of. The event is at noon (doors 11:30am) in the Bay Ridge Prep Lower School Gym, 8101 Ridge Boulevard, Brooklyn NY.
  • Then on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, we're having a class Spring Trip to the Mountains and registration is now open! Please feel free to contact us with any questions. This is a great opportunity to train in nature, and also have a bunch of fun.
  • Finally, on Tuesday, June 5th, we're going to have our Year-end Demonstration at Trevor Day School, 1 W 88th St, at 5:30pm. Save the date!
