Bay Ridge Prep Turkey Trot - Yearly Fund Raiser

1 mile fun run
Shore Road and 79th Street - Bay Ridge, Brooklyn 1:00pm.
Everyone is invited to be in the event or just come and cheer on the runners. Let us know if you would like to register for the race and get a number www.bayridgeprep.org

7:00 pm – 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Dan Tournament - Doors open at 6:30pm

Bay Ridge Prep High School Gymnasium, 74th street and 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Fees: $65 each contestant, $20 for adult participants in the special practice not in the tournament
$15 for child (15 years and younger) participants in the special practice not in the tournament

$5 for spectators, $20 for dinner after (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th degrees)

WMA Karate Halloween Parade and Party

Calling all ghosts and goblins to join us for our annual Halloween Party. This year, we will be having a parade to show our costumes off through the Palmetto Playground and then back to the studio for games and treats and maybe a few treats. Please bring a snack to share. Delicious treats are also being provided by our wonderful local confectioner Tania’s Petite Sweets.

Tae Kwon Do in the Mountains 2011

WMAA writes, “As you already know the dates for the 2011 WMAA Summer Camp are August 13th through August 21st.

There is something for everyone in this annual event practicing Tae Kwon Do in the woods every day, an acoustic and electric music concert (with dancing!), a trip to the high peaks of the Adirondack mountains for a day hike, the Minekill run, swimming in the “refreshing” water of Minekill State Park pool, a trip to the lake for boating, swimming, and hiking, campfires, special training classes to work on form technique, self defense, conditioning, Chez Antoine’s Restaurant, the special practice and Black Belt Test (Saturday, August 21st), seminars – the list goes on and on.

This year we have a new feature on the mountaintop. There is a brand new in ground swimming pool being dug and built into the woods…”

WMAA Spring Tournament – Saturday May 7th

The WMAA Spring Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 12 pm to 7 pm at:

Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, 185 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY

This tournament is open to all belt levels from white thru 3rd degree black belts, and all ages from children through adults. This is a wonderful opportunity to test your skills under the pressure of competition. Students from all over the country will be coming in to NYC for this event.

2011 Children’s Tournament
Date: Saturday, March 12th

WMAA writes, “This is just a reminder that this year’s Children’s Tournament and Junior Black Belt Test will be on Saturday, March 12th. Normally, the ages of the competitors are 15 and below. This year, by popular demand, the tournament will be open to 16 year old students.

Remember to turn in your applications by Wednesday, March 2nd. Any form submitted after this date will change the registration fee from $65 to $75.

There has been a group of junior brown belts training for this upcoming black belt test at the headquarters practice for a few months months or more now. If you have not had a chance to witness any of these training sessions on a Monday or Wednesday night, they have been inspirational and a great learning experience.

Finally, remember the Children’s tournament is an excellent chance for the adult black belts to learn tournament judging – forms and freestyle. ”
